If you are hoping to travel by public transport, the nearest railway station is Battle and the nearest bus stops are at Ninfield, Netherfield or Battle. There is no public transport to Penhurst. Taxis cost around £10. Sometimes a member of staff may be able to collect you from Battle so please enquire before booking a taxi.

Trains from LONDON to Battle leave from Charing Cross, Waterloo East and London Bridge [final destination Hastings]

From EASTBOURNE or LEWES change at St. Leonards Warrior Square
Coaches from London
There is one coach per day which departs from Victoria Coach Station and arrives in Battle at around 8pm
By car from Eastbourne A27
From Eastbourne follow A27 in easterly direction towards Hastings.
At the Pevensey roundabout take the left turn towards Wartling. Continue to the T junction with A271 at Herstmonceaux.
Turn right on to the A271, pass through Boreham Street.
After Boreham Street take the next turning left towards Battle, remaining on the A271.
Take the next turning left marked for Ashburnham Village [if you go past the entrance to Ashburnham Place on your left you have gone too far].
Remain on this road for about 1 ½ miles, ignoring fork to the left, until you come to a right turn towards Penhurst.
Turn right here and continue for another 1 ½ miles [apx].
You have arrived when you reach the next fingerpost junction.
Turn left towards Brightling and the Manor House gates are on your right.
By car from M25/A21 [East London, Dartford Tunnel]
Exit M25 at Junction 5 [follow signs to A21]
Follow A21 towards Hastings - through Flimwell and Hurst Green. After you pass signs to Robertsbridge, look out for the John's Cross pub on the left.
At the next roundabout take the second exit onto the A2100 for Battle.
At first roundabout in Battle, take the third exit onto the A271 North trade Road signed to Bexhill.
On the A271 ignore right turn to Heathfield, pass the Squirrel Inn on the left.
Ignore left turn to Bexhill.
After the Bexhill turning, continue for approx. ¼ mile looking out for a staggered junction. Turn right at that junction by a telephone box to Penhurst [not signposted].
At next fingerpost junction [approx 1 mile] take the left fork towards Ashburnham.
You have arrived when you reach the next fingerpost junction [approx ½ mile].
Turn right towards Brightling and then right again into the driveway of Manor House.
If you pass the church you have gone too far!
By car from A22
From the A22 join the A271 at Horsebridge (the Boship Hotel roundabout just north of Hailsham).
Continue on the 271 through Magham Down, Herstmonceux, Windmill Hill and Boreham Street.
After leaving Boreham Street turn left [staying on the A271] towards Battle.
Take the next turning left marked for Ashburnham Village [if you go past the entrance to Ashburnham Place on your left you have gone too far].
Remain on this road for about 1 ½ miles, ignoring fork to the left, until you come to a right turn towards Penhurst.
Turn right here and continue for another 1 ½ miles [apx].
You have arrived when you reach the next fingerpost junction.
Turn left towards Brightling and the Manor House gates are on your right.
By Air
Gatwick is the nearest airport and direct trains run from there to ‘St. Leonards, Warrior Square’.
The journey time is around 1 hour 30 minutes and off-peak return tickets cost around 22 GBP. We can often collect guests from St Leonards station but this needs to be arranged in advance. If a lift is not available you can get a taxi from the station for around 16 GBP.
In some circumstances we may be able to collect guests from Gatwick airport. Alternatively you can hire a car from Gatwick airport for around 110 GBP per week.
